REPORTER1Welcome to the World Championship here in Budapest, the opening yesterday was unlucky due to the weather, but today the stadium is full, spectators on the tiers enjoy the sunshine, but now let's go to the second track where the women's pole vaulters are getting ready.
REPORTER2We are watching a Czech competitor, Jirina Ptacnikova, as she is slowly getting ready for the jump. She improved her personal best last year, when she finished in fifth place. Now let's see her condition at this competition.
REPORTER1She raises the pole, starts sprinting, great speed, the jump, and now...Oh yes, four meters 65 cetimetres. She did it. She is leading the competition after this round, beautiful jump. What a great champion she is...
REPORTER2This was her first trial, she went feet first over the bar and is now running around the stadium holding her hand high, she looks very confident...
REPORTER1She knows that only Savchenko can now threaten her position, but in the last round Savchenko didn't make it over 4.60, so she is very probably going to be the pole vault winner today...

Exercise 2: Selections

Read the following letter and decide which statements are true.

Read the following text:

Dear sirs,
I am protesting against the decision of the judge concerning my red card in the last match of my team. Let me explain my reasons. First, the referee wasn't watching when the foul happened. Second, it wasn't a foul, I was only trying to get the ball. It is all on the cameras, please watch the record of the match once again. This was concerning the yellow card. And now, the red card. I got the red card, when the referee looked at me and saw me showing my middle finger. But it wasn't at him. It was at Giorgio Galetto, who was standing beside him. Please look at the cameras record again. And then Galetto showed me his middle finger too, but nothing happened to him!
Dear sirs, I am asking you again, please inspect this unlucky case, and help me prove I am not guilty.
Thank you,

Yours sincerely
Armando Chordi

Regular stadiums offer seats in the tiers for the spectators. Tiers or bleachers are terraces from which people can see the pitch and track. Many stadiums make luxury suites available to patrons for thousands of dollars per event.
